Connecting to Movies

We've been analyzing films for a Social Studies unit. How do you connect with the characters so far? How would you have fit in during the 1950's & 1960's? Could you have survived the mental institution and Nurse Ratched? Could you have survived the chain gang? Why do you think McMurphy and Cool Hand Luke didn't survive?

Please post a comment here or send me an email and let me know your thoughts.

Educon

This past weekend, a major educational conference was held in Philadelphia. Here's a description of the conference: EduCon 2.0 is both a conversation and a conference. And it is not a technology conference. It is an education conference. It is a School 2.0 conference. It is, hopefully, an innovation conference where we can come together, both in person and virtually, to discuss the future of schools. Every session will be an opportunity to discuss and debate ideas -- from the very practical to the big dreams.
Unfortunately it was a weekend conference and we missed out on opportunities to participate in the discussion. Here's a few video clips from the conference:

My question to you is this: If you, the student can change one thing about public education, what would it be? Justify your answer and explain your thought.

PublicEarth

To The PM Social Studies Class:
You have been getting to know PublicEarth. Mr. Klitzke described it as a combination Facebook and Google Earth. I think of the site as something that can be very personal and specific to an individual, while also being completely open to everyone in the world.

You were shown the basics with the site and told asked to create a 'place.'

Comment on your place you created and leave the url in the comment box so we can see your work.

What do you think?

Please answer the above question so that I can determine the interest level for continuing with CORE Printing. Also, make sure you leave a comment and justify why you voted the way you voted. Thank You!

CORE Printing & iPhone App Course

Two weeks into the school based enterprise and we're off to a great start. We've made brochures and business cards for CheesecakesByJayne. Students also created fliers which will be posted throughout the community and sent home to all 3rd-8th graders.  Soon, we'll have a website to display work and get the word out about CORE Printing.

Also, there's an online class from 2-3pm on Tuesdays which will teach people to create apps for the iPhone. Anyone interested in taking the class should talk to me or follow the link I emailed to you.

Running a Business

To everyone in the School Based Enterprise. I'm very proud of your enthusiasm that you've showed thus far. The next step is going to involve learning programs outside of Microsoft Publisher. Adobe has several outstanding tutorials for their programs (I'm still figuring out the differences between Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign). I thinks these videos will help you learn the new software programs. Next week, we'll look for applications that may be useful for us online.

School Based Enterprise

Here's the slideshow regarding the school based enterprise. This can be a great thing if we put our energy into it.
